Craving Acceptance

You know you want to be liked. Everybody does. Unless you have been rejected so often that you have become numb, you are familiar with this deep longing to be accepted for who you are. Even among the lucky few who find a partner who really knows them and accepts them, there remains a longing for more.

While we all need friendships on earth, only Jesus Christ can satisfy your deepest longing for acceptance. How? Jesus knows you more intimately than anyone else ever can. He knows everything about you—your desires, emotions, victories, failures, fears, hurts and weaknesses. The Bible says, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar… Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.” (Psalm 139:1-4)

Why does it matter that God knows you so well? It matters because, even though God knows things about you that nobody else does, even things you wouldn’t tell your closest friend, he still loves you completely. You can’t disappoint somebody who knows what you are going to do even before you do! For those who put their faith in him, God promises to forget about the bad stuff. For real. The Bible says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12) That’s pretty far.
