Unsatiable cravings
Most addicts never start out wanting to be addicted. In a vulnerable moment, they try to escape the pain of reality with something that eventually consumes their life.
Addicts often experience depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and anger. They become obsessive about getting their next “fix,” deny reality and begin to believe that their compulsions are more important than anything else. Addicts also affect others by isolating themselves, using manipulation and deceiving others.
An addiction is not merely a habit, but it’s a form of slavery. A person who is addicted to something is made a slave to the addiction. They neglect all other areas of their life in order to serve their craving.
But freedom from this slavery is possible. God promises to help liberate you from your bondage by offering His own strength to overcome it. God not only promises to help you overcome your addiction, but He also promises to fill your desire for satisfaction.
